Principal's Message

Welcome to Katimavik Elementary School!

Katimavik is a dynamic learning community of  340 students. It is a grade 4 to 8- dual track ( English and French Immersion)  school. Our number one priority is to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for every student and staff member. Well being and academics are integrated to help our students experience success. We want to challenge all students and staff to live in the moment, experience everything they can, and make someone’s day each day.

In order to live in the moment, electronic devices are to be used for educational purposes only, not for texting or instagraming each other while at school. Recess is a time to connect, enjoy being a child, and to join in extra curricular activities to experience everything they can.

The school offers a variety of extra curricular activities to ensure students are not only engaged with academics, but also have opportunities to develop their social, emotional, and physical well-being. We want students to experience everything they can while at Katimavik. This year, due to Covid, we will be exploring different ways to promote well being. This is a good time and safe space to discover their passions!

We encourage students to ‘make someone’s day, to do something nice for someone every day. We work in a respectful workplace and building relationships is key to success. We truly believe that all children do well if they can, and if they make mistakes, then we will support them in learning from their mistakes.  We use the collaborative problem solving approach, brainstorming a solution, in a supportive environment, that is realistic and mutually satisfactory.

The dedicated and caring staff are responsive to individual student needs and interests. They plan their lessons with their students in mind, and take the time to get to know their students. This fosters a sense of belonging in our school. We strive to integrate academics and wellbeing to support the holistic development of all students. We want all students to experience success each day to foster a feeling of accomplishment. Hopefully, when asked “Why are you learning this?” students can explain why the learning is important for the real world.

At Katimavik, we are fortunate to have a school council that works extremely hard to support students and staff.  I encourage you to become involved in the many and varied activities the School Council runs throughout the year.

We are a team in your child’s learning, therefore if you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me here at the school (613-592-5463) or via email ( Katimavik is an amazing place to be; the administration and the entire teaching team will continue to help our students achieve success.
